I’m in the process of developing a couple of photo “projects”.
The first involves reviewing some of my picture folders to develop a portfolio of images that lend themselves to black and white versions. Inherent in that exercise is experimenting and learning different techniques of conversion that create impressive, eye-catching and, let’s be honest, marketable images.
The second project revolves around another extensive set of images that I’ve captured over the last few years, and is centred on a favourite subject of mine, namely food. Inherent in that exercise is my take on the subject of taste. Enjoyment of food is understandably a matter of taste, but when people talk about “it’s a matter of taste” this relates to so much more in life than just food. It has become a measure of peoples likes and dislikes of pretty much everything in life. Enjoyment of art, literature, fashion, entertainment, involvement and interaction are all inter alia, “a matter of taste”.
So, watch this space for some hopefully eye catching black and white images and, later, some musings, accompanied by some food related images, on the subject of taste.
Obviously, I hope they will both be….. “to your taste”.
In the meantime, and as it seems become customary, I can preface these evolving projects with an introductory note. Unsurprisingly to those who know me or who have read earlier musings from me, I found that as the note developed in my head, a rhyme emerged. Again, something composed to be relevant, to amuse and inform, and which is sufficiently tasteful.
Experience assists, providing useful insight.
Intelligence enables choice of what is right,
Seemingly, its binary to love or loath Marmite.
But we all know life’s not all just black and white.
Photography combines art and science in capturing light.
Quality and beauty measured by the beholders sight.
Some images amuse, entertain, inform, and even excite
While others are less impressive, or frankly deemed shite.
We tend to know what we enjoy with instinct and foresight
Developing and defining our “taste”, what we dislike or gives delight
But we are all different, and shades of grey are relevant and apposite
Because we all know life’s not all just black and white.
